Our relationship with Allah

Without Allah, life is not worth living, with Allah, life is worth dying for

Have you ever really loved a woman?

This is a heart breakingly sweet melody by Bryan Adams that transports you into another world. The kinda world where knights in shining armour exist; true love is still an alive and throbbing force. And where a man can tenderly look into the eyes of his woman and see the future, not the present’s lust.

Is there such love today?

I quote:

To really love a woman
To understand her – you gotta know it deep inside
Hear every thought – see every dream
N’ give her wings – when she wants to fly
Then when you find yourself lyin’ helpless in her arms
You know you really love a woman

When you love a woman you tell her
that she’s really wanted
When you love a woman you tell her that she’s the one
she needs somebody to tell her
that it’s gonna last forever
So tell me have you ever really
- really really ever loved a woman?

To really love a woman
Let her hold you -
til ya know how she needs to be touched
You’ve gotta breathe her – really taste her
Til you can feel her in your blood
N’ when you can see your unborn children in her eyes
You know you really love a woman

When you love a woman
you tell her that she’s really wanted
When you love a woman you tell her that she’s the one
she needs somebody to tell her
that you’ll always be together
So tell me have you ever really -
really really ever loved a woman?

You got to give her some faith – hold her tight
A little tenderness – gotta treat her right
She will be there for you, takin’ good care of you
Ya really gotta love your woman…

Then when you find yourself lyin’ helpless in her arms
You know you really love a woman
When you love a woman you tell her
that she’s really wanted
When you love a woman you tell her that she’s the one
she needs somebody to tell her
that it’s gonna last forever
So tell me have you ever really
- really really ever loved a woman?

Just tell me have you ever really,
really, really, ever loved a woman? You got to tell me
Just tell me have you ever really,
really, really, ever loved a woman?

Unquote.

Why then should a woman settle for a poor and even worse, temporary imitation of the real thing?

Of Love and other demons…

She could no more resist him than a moth resists the flame of the candle and flies back to be scorched again and again. Self-inflicted death.”
- Denise Robins, “The Long Shadow”

Bonds…

Of all the bonds created in the universe,
The strongest is that of Creator and creation.

Good times and Bad / Love him not his Wallet

I am free now but hardly feel so. The burden of bad papers is weighing down on me. Each has been worse than the last. To add insult to the injury, my article didn’t get published in Dawn though the editor said they liked it and WOULD publish it. I feel dejected.

I have to send in the Unilever application today and don’t feel braggy at all. I wonder why companies and universities ask you to write these egoistic essays. They are a blow to modesty.

Little refusals do affect one after all.

Moving on to better things I had a blast with my buddies yesterday. The fact that I had two papers the next day some how did not prevent me from having fun :D

My friends are a talented bunch. ZT is doing her ACCA, Bee’s a textile designer, Ash’s a dentist and Lucky is the lead vocalist, Hive o 5ive. Incidentally the band’s Marketing Manager is yours truly.

The talk turned to guys as it invariably does if you’ve studied in girls only all your life :) My friends feel men and infidelity go together. I disagree.

It’s the way you make him feel. If you cherish him and nurture him, make him feel special, he’ll never go astray. But if you nag and discourage or are suspicious of his every move, he’s bound to feel claustrophobic.

But there are always exceptions. Guys do cheat but then so do girls.

Furthermore we, girls have this tendency to measure a guy’s bank balance and not his heart. Money is all very good but are you gonna spend the whole night talking to his money or cracking jokes with it as you take a walk in the rain? The little pleasures in life don’t need money. How will a guy feel about your relationship if he knows you married him for money? And that the person that he is doesnt mean anything to you?

Love him not his wallet.

We’re in love with the feeling of being in love. True love happens when that feeling of love fades away – and you still stick with each other.

Every moment is not magic. It’s up to you to make ‘em magical :)

“And among His signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves that you may dwell in tranquillity with them and He has put love and mercy between your hearts: verily in that are signs for those who reflect.” (Surah Al Rum 30:21)

The Ultimate Achievement

“O Allah, make my love for You the most beloved thing to me, and my fear for You the most fearful thing to me, and remove from me all worldly needs and wants by instilling a passion for meeting You, and when You have given the people of the world the pleasures of their world, make the coolness of my eyes pleasure in worshiping You”.

The Essence of Freedom

Let go.

Let go of the troubles that are plaguing you. Release the pain. Don’t you know that you are Allah’s possession and that He takes care of all that He creates? Who waters the lush foliage sprouting abundantly everywhere? Who feeds the tiny insects crawling here and there? Who brings up little babies abandoned by their parents?

Unburden yourself.

Your difficulties are not just your own, Allah knows them, He will resolve them. For you have been created by Allah, now he will fulfill your needs.

Trust Him.

“And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower”. [Surah Al baqarah, ayah 268]

Mughal-e-Azam by Dr. Irshad Sethi

My earliest memories are those of waking up to the melody of old ghazals. My father is a connoisseur of the arts – writing, music and drama – and he inclucated this love in his children. Mughal-e-Azam is one of his favourite films and arguably the best Indian classical love story every made. He has spent his life researching the making of this movie and the events unfolding in the lives of his idols – actors Dilip Kumar and Madhubala and the director K. Asif during it’s making. I typed this article for him and am attaching it here for your perusal…

A labour of Love - Mughal-e-Azam

Of Sunrises

Today I decided to see the sunrise. I wanted to see darkness give way to light, to mingle with His creations, all alone. With tasbeeh in hand, I stepped out murmuring “Ya Musaviru”, The cats were awake as were the birds. They seemed at peace with me. The sky was dark but tinged with purple, hinting that sunrise was soon to follow. Light breezes would blow periodically and I rushed to catch ‘em, race with ‘em..

Allah is so beautiful. His creations are perfect like Him. I wish I could understand Him with the little mental faculties that I have. My heart recognizes him, my soul is part of him but my mind fails to understand why He does what He does.

But then after all He is the Creator, I am the creation. He is the Master, I , the slave. But this relationship is not merely one of fear and subordination. For I love Him too. And whatever He does, I will continue to love Him with my last breath InshAllah. But I do not question Him. I cannot. For I do not know.

I try to use my mind but it fails to grasp what I know is true.

My mind questions, my heart submits.

Allah, please unite the two in submission!

The cats were hungry. I gave up my stroll and ventured indoors to find them food.

Perhaps InshAllah, I shall see the sunrise tommorrow…
