About Me

Lets take a trip down memory lane..

I was 8 years old when I wrote my first book, complete with illustrations. I sold it to my parents for 50 bucks :) Early on, I was bitten by the writing bug. This probably stemmed from the family tradition of story telling. I wouldn’t eat until I had heard the tale of Cinderella, Snow White AND Rapunzel many times over. Sigh, my ammi’s very patient…

Soon my mom grew out of stories to tell and I turned to books. I have a vociferous appetite for novels and no particular discerning taste. I would be equally contented with a “Wuthering Heights” as with a Mills and Boons… It just has to be a well-spun yarn.

I’ve been into computer software from the very start. I particularly enjoy programming. Writing algorithms is like solving puzzles. I had always been taught the top-down approach (in Basic and C++) so object-oriented programming in java was programming heaven. Unfortunately BBA-MIS does not have much programming now. My colleagues are probably rolling their eyes at this statement. Programming, for most people, is as much fun as a shoe that pinches but you must continue to wear it else you’ll go barefoot.

Such a subject for me is Maths, the backbone of most sciences. Maths questions for me are unnatural aliens from outer space, I find it impossible to befriend ‘em :D

I’ve studied my whole life in DHA. Being a girl’s school, there was emphasis on home economics. We were taught to be, ahem, good domestic engineers. My favourite laboratory is my kitchen, my favourite art – doll making. My father is a pediatrician working in a charitable hospital. I used to give my dolls to the poor, sick children who used to come there and would make paper dolls for myself. Thats where my penchant for arts and crafts began.

I love cats. My house has more cats than humans much to my parents dismay. The worst part is that they aren’t even pretty pedigree cats. I have a pack of 7 strays and they’re reproducing very fast. Soon the house will be overrun by kittens. It’s a very feline-friendly zone.

It’s the little things that make life beautiful. Watching a crimson sunset while the waves make music at your feet. The melody of the sea breeze. Yellow dandelions sprouting in the wild. Long walks with my father, shopping sprees with my mother. Yakking on the phone with a close friend. Blue songs on moonlit nights. Reuniting with my brothers who live abroad. The gurgling noises of my bhanja. Knights in shining armour, the colour pink. A thing of beauty is a joy forever…

The turning point of my life was in 2006, when I went for Haj. When I looked at the Ka’aba, I felt incredible strength pouring through me. I knew that if Allah was with me, no ambition was too lofty, the universe itself was attainable. After that I tried to truly understand Allah’s word, I feel we owe our Creator at least one reading. I read the Quran like I would a favourite text book, complete with highlighting and notes. And I found Sakinah. When the going gets tough, it is that feeling of utter bliss – when you know that Allah loves you and you in turn, love Him – that keeps me going.

I know I will never be alone again.

Currently I am a student at the IBA. It’s truly fulfilling if you’re able to conduct business with Islamic values for that’s what our Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) did. Islam is LIFE and to be truly implemented, it must be the driving force in each aspect of life.

I am a traveller on this path.
