Though believing in Nazar is part of our faith (Surah Nas), I was never one to pay heed to superstitions. The Sethi family has 2 of them w.r.t girls: they shouldn’t wear glass bangles or wear black. I usually abstain from these items in respect to my father but some days back a gorgeous black dress was on sale. It wasn’t even all black and I made a grab for it.
I wore it to a seminar on Wednesday and got a lot of admiration. People would stop me in IBA and compliment. Later when I came home, I suddenly fell very ill. i couldn’t even make it to class on Thursday. Luckily Friday became a holiday and I got to recuperate. Come Saturday, I dragged myself to school with racoon eyes and wilting skin.
I wonder what happened? Was it Nazar, superstition or just one of those things? And above all, I am curious. What is the science behind Nazar? How can envious glances hurt an entity?
Whatever the reason, I won’t be wearing glass bangles to the bake sale on Wednesday. Better be safe than sorry
